Kootenay 4 Prince Albert 1 Game #51
Cranbrook, BC – Kootenay ICE defenseman Hayden Rintoul and forward Kevin King had 2 goal games in a 4-1 win over Prince Albert in WHL action on Friday night.
Raiders opened the scoring on a shorthanded 2-on-1 break and Brandon Herron coming down the left wing scored on a wrist shot.
ICE tied the game on a powerplay as defenseman Hayden Rintoul sailed a high wrist shot from the boards and beat the screened goalie.
After a scoreless second period the ICE scored a powerplay goal early in the 3rd period as Hayden Rintoul wristed a shot from the top of the circle that beat the goal high on the glove side.
The ICE increased the lead 3-1 on a 2-on-1 break as Dustin Sylvester from the corner put a pass in the low slot that found Kevin King in the low slot and scored on a one time wrist shot.
King added one into an empty net.
ICE scratches – Elgin Pearce & Brendan Hurley.
The ICE will place 5 straight road games starting Saturday in Spokane.

Mackenzie Skapski Update
As we mentioned on last night's broadcast I have receieved an update on Mackenzie Skapski.
He was selected by the ICE in the 3rd round of the 2009 Bantam Draft. The goalie was on the Fraser Valley team bus that got into a serious accident a few weeks ago.
It was reported that he suffered head injuries, had two plates and some screws surgically installed to repair damage and facilitate healing.
He says he hopes to return to the ice next week.
"Maybe start skating next week, U-17 tryouts start in March with zone camps around the province, followed by BC Cup in 100 Mile House in April.
Provincial camp is after that and then short list for Team Pacific and they play at the same time as world juniors, team pacific consists of ten players from British Columbia and ten players from Alberta.
As far as next year my goal is to do whatever i possibly can to earn a spot on the Kootenay Ice hockey club."

Brandon 6 Kootenay 5 OT Game #50
Cranbrook, BC – The Brandon Wheat Kings came back from a 5-3 deficit in a 6-5 overtime win over the Kootenay ICE in WHL action on Tuesday night.
The ICE opened the scoring on the powerplay as James Martin’s point shot beat the screened goalie along the ice on the glove side.
35 seconds later the Wheat Kings tied the game as defenseman Mark Schneider was wide open in the high slot and scored with a high shot that beat a screened goalie.
ICE regained a lead off a turnover in the Wheat Kings zone and Max Reinhart fed a wide open Matt Fraser who scored on a wrist shot.
Wheat Kings tied the game on a powerplay as the ICE blocked a shot but it went to a wide open Brayden Schenn who tallied with a wrist shot.
Ice regained the lead 3-2 as Drew Czerwonka won the puck behind the Brandon net and put in near the crease where Joe Antilla, from in close, wristed it in over the goalies’ shoulder.
In the second period the ICE got a 4-2 lead as Brayden McNabb came out of the penalty box and had a breakaway from the blueline and scored on a backhand deke.
Brandon changed goalies as Jacob DeSerres replaced Andrew Hayes.
Wheat Kings got back within a goal as Brodie Melnychuk’s point shot deflected off an ICE stick and went in the net in the top corner.
ICE made the game 5-3 on a powerplay as Hayden Rintoul’s cross ice pass went off Steele Boomer’s leg and into the net. Video replayed ruled a legal goal.
Video replayed played an impact on the Wheat Kings goal on the powerplay. There was a goal mouth scramble near the ICE crease and as play continued Dustin Sylvester was tripped on a possible breakaway and a penalty was called against the Wheat Kings. During the stoppage the official went to video replayed and ruled a goal for Brandon. Even though the penalty happened after the goal the penalty was still called. The goal was awarded to Aaron Lewadniuk with an assist to Brent Raedeke who was eventually in the penalty box.
In the 3rd period Brayden Schenn got his second of the game as he went coast to coast, dangled by 3 ICE players and squeezed a backhand shot the barely went in through the goalies leg.
In overtime the ICE hit a cross bar and had another shot go through the goalies legs but it died near the goal line.
The Wheat Kings got the game winner on a partial breakaway as Scott Glennie came in free and picked the top corner.
The ICE home winning streak was stopped at 8 games and Todd Mathews winning streak is done at a Franchise Record 11 games.
ICE scratches – Jagger Dirk & Elgin Pearce.
The crowd was the largest of the season at the Rec-Plex.
The ICE will host Prince Albert on Friday.

Kootenay @ Regina Recheduled
The Regina Pats and Kootenay Ice have agreed on a make-up date for their game that was originally scheduled for Sunday, January 24th at 6pm which was postponed because of bad weather and poor driving conditions. The two teams will play the rescheduled game on Monday, February 1st at 7pm at the Brandt Centre.

The ICE game tonight in Regina has been cancelled because of road closures.
The new date has yet to be determined.
The ICE are in Regina in 2 weeks to play on Saturday Feb 6th.
There are no games scheduled on Sunday the 7th because it is Super Bowl Sunday.
The ICE and Pats could be forced to play as both teams schedules are pretty busy the rest of the season.
So it could be a Double Header weekend in Regina.
The weather heading west to Cranbrook is good enough for the club to return to Cranbrook tonight.
The club will host Brandon on Tuesday.

WHL Player of the Week is forward Jesse Ismond of the Kootenay Ice.
Ismond collected seven points, scoring four goals and three assists to go with a +7 rating, in three games over the past week, helping the Ice post a 3-0-0-0 record in that span.
On Wednesday, January 13th, the Ice were in Edmonton for a rare weekday matinee contest against the Oil Kings on their CN Hooky Hockey Day promotion. Ismond scored his first career hat-trick and added an assist as the Ice downed the Oil Kings 4-2. He was also named the games 1st Star. On Saturday, January 16th, the Ice were back at the Cranbrook Recreation Complex hosting the Spokane Chiefs. Ismond picked up an assist as the Ice were able to hold on and defeat the Chiefs 4-3. The next day, Sunday, January 17th, the Kootenay Ice travelled to Calgary to face their Central Division rivals the Hitmen. Ismond netted one goal and one assist in the Ice’s 3-1 victory over the Hitmen.
Ismond’s seven points over the last three games has him sitting 4th in Kootenay Ice team scoring with 34 points (12 goals, 22 assists) in 46 games. With the win over the Calgary Hitmen on Sunday the Ice set a new franchise record capturing their 12th straight victory and currently sit fifth in the WHL Eastern Conference with a 28-15-1-2 record for 59 points, just one shy of the Hitmen for fourth.
Ismond, an 18-year-old from Kindersley, Saskatchewan, is currently playing his second season with the Kootenay Ice. He was drafted by the Ice in the sixth round of the 2006 WHL Bantam Draft has gone onto appear in 113 WHL regular season games collecting 55 points (22 goals, 33 assists).
The WHL has also nominated Morgan Clark of the Swift Current Broncos for the CHL Goaltender of the Week Award. Clark posted a 1-1-0-0 record this past week, stopping 55 of 57 shots faced for a 1.080 goals-against average and a 0.965 save percentage. Clark, a native of Flower Mound, Texas, has appeared in 30 games this season posting a 15-10-0-1 record.

Cranbrook, BC – The Kootenay ICE have won 11 games in a row after a 4-2 win over the Spokane Chiefs in WHL action on Saturday night.
ICE scored on their 1st shot on goal as Kevin King deflected a wrist shot from Dustin Sylvester that rolled through the goalies legs.
It was King's 50th career goal.
Chiefs tied the game 1-1 while shorthanded as Blake Gal blocked a shot and went on a 2-on-1 break and scored on wrist shot that beat the goalie on the glove side.
Chiefs took a 2-1 lead on the powerplay as defenseman Stefan Ulmer scored on a shot that beat the screened goalie high on the glove side.
ICE tied the game 2-2 in the 2nd period as Luke Paulsen’s high point shot was deflected by Steele Bomer.
Video replayed ruled it was not put in with a high stick.
2 minutes later the ICE took a 3-2 lead as Max Reinhart found a loose puck in the high slot and spun around with a wrist shot that went in high on the glove side. Reinhart has goals in 3 straight games.
ICE scored on the powerplay to make the score 4-2 as Brayden McNabb faked a shot at the spot and fed a wide open Dustin Sylvester at the bottom of the circle as he scored on a 1-time slap shot.

ICE forward Jesse Ismond scored his 1st career hat-trick and had a career best 4-point game in a 4-2 win in Edmonton.

ICE Yellow Sticks

Cranbrook, BC -- Jeff Chynoweth, General Manager of the Kootenay ICE Hockey Club, today announced that the ICE will be partnering up with the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of Canada (CCFC) to raise money for research in hopes of finding a cure for the diseases.
On Friday, January 29th when the ICE host the Prince Albert Raiders, the team will be using yellow sticks during warm up and in the first period of the game. The sticks will be auctioned off in a silent auction during the game behind Section U with all money raised going to the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation to aid in research. The winning bidders will receive their yellow sticks after the game from the ICE Players.

ICE Make One Trade On Deadline Day
Jeff Chynoweth, General Manager of the Kootenay ICE Hockey Club, today announced the Club has traded Petr Senkerik to the Prince George Cougars in exchange for a fifth round pick in the 2011 WHL Bantam Draft.
“This trade allows us the opportunity to give Luke Paulsen and Jagger Dirk more ice time. By getting down to seven defenseman it allows both of them to continue their development playing their regular positions. We wish Petr all the best in his WHL career and thank him for his contribution to the team,” commented Chynoweth.
The ICE are now carrying 22 players, including two goalies, seven defensemen and 13 forwards.

Kootenay 2 Red Deer 1 Game #43
Cranbrook, BC – Kootenay ICE forward Max Reinhart had 2 3rd period goals in a 2-1 win over the Red Deer Rebels in WHL action on Saturday night.
All the goals came in the final period
The Rebels scored while shorthanded as Josh Cowen’s attempted shot went off a ICE defenseman’s stick through the legs of the netminder.
ICE tied the game on the power-play. After calling a timeout, the ICE on a planned play fed Hayden Rintoul sneaking in at the back door, his shot is stopped but the rebound was put in by Max Reinhart.
After killing of a power-play the ICE got the game winner as Rintoul came out of the penalty box and went on the attack on a 3-on-2 break. Rintoul fed the trailing Reinhart who scored on a one time shot that went in stick side.
The ICE have won 9 games in a row.
The ICE lead the season series 3-2 with each team winning a game in extra time.
ICE scratches – Dominik Pacovsky 18th game (ankle 2-3 weeks), Kevin King 2nd game (knee day-to-day) & Elgin Pearce.
The WHL trade deadline is at 3 Sunday afternoon.
The ICE will visit Edmonton on Wednesday.

Kootenay 8 Saskatoon 1 Game #41
Cranbrook, BC – Kootenay ICE Captain Dustin Sylvester had a hat trick in an 8-1 win over the Saskatoon Blades in WHL action on Wednesday night.
Blades opened the scoring as Darian Dziurzynski was alone in front of the net and poked in a rebound through the goalies legs.
ICE tied the game as goalie Todd Mathews stopped a 2-on-1 and then assisted on the goal as Dustin Sylvester went the other way and fired a wrist shot high on the glove side.
In the second period the ICE scored 2 goals 26 second apart.
Sylvester got his 2nd of the game as he fired home a Kevin King rebound.
Jesse Ismond created a turnover that sent Matt Fraser to the slot and scored on a high wrist shot.
Blades called their timeout after the 3rd ICE goal.
ICE forward Brock Montgomery made the score 4-1 as he was alone in front of the net and wristed a shot high on the stick side.
After killing off a 2 man disadvantage the ICE, with the clubs skating 4-on-4, made the score 5-1 as Montgomery pounced on a rebound and put a shot that snuck through the laid down goalie.
Montgomery then became a playmaker as he won the race to the puck in the corner and fed Drew Czerwonka who crashed the net for a redirection.
To start the third period the Blades changed goalies as Adam Morrison replaced Steven Stanford.
Sylvester notched his 2nd hat trick of the season and 4th of his career on a 3-on-2 break and wristed a shot high on the glove side.
Joe Antilla banged at a couple of rebounds near the crease and eventually rolled it in to complete the scoring.
ICE scratches – Dominik Pacovsky 16th game (ankle 2-3 weeks), Jagger Dirk & Elgin Pearce.
The ICE have won 7 in a row.
The loss ends the Blades winning streak at 5 games.

Jesse Ismond created a turnover that sent Matt Fraser to the slot and scored on a high wrist shot.
Blades called their timeout after the 3rd ICE goal.
ICE forward Brock Montgomery made the score 4-1 as he was alone in front of the net and wristed a shot high on the stick side.
After killing off a 2 man disadvantage the ICE, with the clubs skating 4-on-4, made the score 5-1 as Montgomery pounced on a rebound and put a shot that snuck through the laid down goalie.
Montgomery then became a playmaker as he won the race to the puck in the corner and fed Drew Czerwonka who crashed the net for a redirection.
To start the third period the Blades changed goalies as Adam Morrison replaced Steven Stanford.
Sylvester notched his 2nd hat trick of the season and 4th of his career on a 3-on-2 break and wristed a shot high on the glove side.
Joe Antilla banged at a couple of rebounds near the crease and eventually rolled it in to complete the scoring.
ICE scratches – Dominik Pacovsky 16th game (ankle 2-3 weeks), Jagger Dirk & Elgin Pearce.
The ICE have won 7 in a row.
The loss ends the Blades winning streak at 5 games.
The win was the 100th regular season victory for ICE Head Coach Mark Holick.
ICE will visit Calgary on Thursday and host Red Deer on Saturday.

This is the 2nd meeting of the year, on October 7th the Blades won 8-4.
The ICE will be playing their 1st game of the New Year after wrapping up 2009 with 6 straight wins.
The club is tied with Red Deer for 5th place in the Conference.
The Blades were in Spokane last night to finish their U.S. road trip.
Saskatoon is in 1st place in the Conference.
It’s the start of a busy stretch of games for the ICE who will play 13 games in the next 25 days.
