Jaedon Descheneau scored his third shootout winner of the season as the Kootenay ICE edged the Brandon Wheat Kings 3-2 at Westman Place.
Wyatt Hoflin stopped 32 shots as the ICE collected points for the seventh straight game.
After a scoreless first period, Kootenay opened the scoring 8:14 into the second period when Sam Reinhart capitalized on a power-play.
Fellow first-round draft pick Morgan Klimchuk tied the game at 1-1 in the final minute of period two, notching his 26th goal of the season.
The two teams traded goals in the third period with the ICE going ahead at 10:42 through Matt Alfaro. Brandon again found an equalizer with 3:27 remaining in regulation time on a tally for Rihards Bukarts.
Four on four overtime solved nothing, and the ICE needed a shootout-tying goal from Alfaro before Descheneau helped the visitors secure the extra point in the fourth round.
Jordan Papirny made 35 saves in the Wheat Kings goal.
Kootenay played its third straight game decided by a shootout.

Jaedon Descheneau scored the deciding goal in the fifth round of the shootout as the Kootenay ICE slipped past the Regina Pats 5-4 Wednesday in Regina.
Descheneau fired a puck off the crossbar behind Pats goaltender Daniel Wapple and in as Kootenay collected points in their sixth consecutive game.
The ICE were forced to come from behind Wednesday, and fell behind 2-0 in the first period after goals from both Taylor Cooper and Pavel Padakin. Kootenay netminder Wyatt Hoflin made 13 saves in the opening frame.
The visitors found the scoresheet 2:17 into period two when River Beattie tipped home Rinat Valiev's point shot to cut the lead to 2-1.
After Regina's Sam Steel gave the hosts a 3-1 lead just past the six-minute mark, the ICE beat Wapple again after Descheneau was given time and space in front of the Pats goal at 8:25.
Kootenay captain Sam Reinhart tied the game at 3-3 with 33 seconds remaining in the middle period, as the ICE outshot Regina 14-9 in the frame.
Kootenay claimed their first lead of the night through Tim Bozon at 11:11 of the third period after he was sprung in on Wapple by Reinhart. Bozon's goal kept him neck-and-neck with Descheneau for the team lead in tallies with 29 on the season.
The Pats pressed for an equalizer, and forced overtime with 45 seconds left in regulation time when Connor Hobbs fired a point blast through heavy traffic in front of Hoflin.
Overtime produced no winner, and after Hoflin foiled five Regina shooters the ICE claimed the extra point thanks to Descheneau.
Hoflin, making his 100th career WHL appearance, stopped 32 shots Wednesday to collect his 31st victory of the season, while Wapple made 37 saves for the Pats.
Reinhart, Valiev and Austin Vetterl all had multi-point efforts for Kootenay. ICE forward Tim Bozon skated in his 250th career game.
Cooper led all scorers with a goal and two assists for Regina.

Overtime produced no winner, and after Hoflin foiled five Regina shooters the ICE claimed the extra point thanks to Descheneau.
Hoflin, making his 100th career WHL appearance, stopped 32 shots Wednesday to collect his 31st victory of the season, while Wapple made 37 saves for the Pats.
Reinhart, Valiev and Austin Vetterl all had multi-point efforts for Kootenay. ICE forward Tim Bozon skated in his 250th career game.
Cooper led all scorers with a goal and two assists for Regina.

Jake DeBrusk's shootout winner capped a wild comeback as the Swift Current Broncos stunned the Kootenay ICE 7-6 in Swift Current Tuesday.
The Broncos overcame a three-goal third period deficit to win, while Kootenay claimed a single point thanks in part to a four-point effort from Luke Philp and two-goal performance from Tim Bozon.
The ICE, beginning a stretch of four games in five nights Tuesday, stormed out of the gate scoring twice in the first 3:07. Philp and Bozon gave the visitors a 2-0 lead before Tanner LeSann replied for Swift Current moments later.
Kootenay restored a two-goal advantage at the nine-minute mark thanks to Jaedon Descheneau's team-leading 28th goal of the season and took a 3-1 lead into the first intermission.
The ICE extended their lead to 5-2 after 40 minutes. After Broncos veteran Coda Gordon and Bozon exchanged goals, Kootenay found a late power-play marker on a point blast from Tanner Lishchynsky in the final minute of the second period. The goal was Lishchynsky's first as a member of the ICE.
Gordon scored again for Swift Current 5:02 into the third period, and the Broncos continued to press before goals 2:20 apart from DeBrusk and blueliner Ayrton Nikkel tied the game at 5-5 with 3:37 remaining in regulation time.
Kootenay went up 6-5 moments later through Levi Cable, but again the Broncos found an equalizer when captain Colby Cave deflected home a point shot with 1:25 remaining in regulation time.
After a scoreless overtime frame, the two sides went until the fourth round of shootout action before DeBrusk put the hosts ahead 1-0. The ICE fate was sealed seconds later when Sam Reinhart's shootout attempt struck the crossbar behind Swift Current relief netminder Travis Child.
Reinhart finished with three assists, while fellow forward Jon Martin chipped in with two helpers.
The Kootenay power-play scored on its only opportunity and has now capitalized on six of the last seven opportunities.

Wyatt Hoflin turned aside 29 shots as the Kootenay ICE dispatched the Spokane Chiefs 5-0 Saturday in Spokane.
Hoflin earned his third shutout of the 2014-15 season, while forwards Luke Philp and Jaedon Descheneau led the Kootenay attack with three points each.
ICE forward Jon Martin opened the scoring just shy of the nine-minute mark as he collected a loose puck in the slot on his backhand, beating Spokane netminder Tyson Verhelst from just outside the crease.
Philp added to the Kootenay lead 8:09 into the second period when from the right circle he unleashed a low drive that snuck through Verhelst's pads.
Descheneau put the ICE up 3-0 late in the middle frame, converting on a back-door feed from linemate Austin Vetterl.
Philp and Descheneau both added late third-period goals as Kootenay, despite being outshot 29-24 on the night, handed the Chiefs their sixth shutout loss of the season.
The ICE went 1-1 on the power play and have now capitalized on each of their last five of their last six man-advantage opportunities dating back to February 17th.
Vetterl and Kootenay captain Sam Reinhart each had two assists Saturday.

Reinhart's goal 7:10 into the third period stood up as the game-winner as the ICE captain became the first player in franchise history to reach 300 career points.
The Oil Kings opened the scoring just shy of the 13-minute mark of the first period through Luke Bertolucci, and held that advantage through much of the first fourty minutes.
Kootenay scored twice on the power play Friday, the first coming with 2:29 left in the second period as Levi Cable tallied his 25th goal of the season to tie the score at 1-1.
Reinhart then gave the home side the lead while the ICE were a man up in the third, collecting a back door pass from Luke Philp before snapping a puck past Edmonton netminder Tristan Jarry from the left wing.
Philp added insurance for Kootenay with 3:45 remaining in regulation time, before Reinhart rounded out the scoring with an empty-net goal with two seconds left to play.
The win was the 30th of the season for the ICE and fourth in six tries this season against the Oil Kings.
Kootenay goaltender Hoflin recorded his 29th victory of the campaign, while Jarry made 23 saves for Edmonton.

Matt Alfaro scored twice as the Kootenay ICE defeated the Lethbridge Hurricanes 5-2 Tuesday at Enmax Centre.
The ICE scored three goals in the first 7:08 of the third period to break the game open as Kootenay moved two points up on the Edmonton Oil Kings for the first wild-card berth in the Eastern Conference.
The two sides trudged through a scoreless opening frame, with the ICE outshooting Lethbridge 7-6. Kootenay put home the opening goal at 11:33 of period two, as Levi Cable set up linemate Austin Vetterl from behind the net.
Alfaro scored a similar goal from the slot on a setup from Tim Bozon minutes later before Hurricanes forward Mike Winther chipped in for Lethbridge from close range with 2:01 left in the period.
The ICE started the third period with a bang, as Bozon ripped home a power-play goal just eight seconds into the frame. Troy Murray added a fourth Kootenay marker a minute and a half later, as he snuck in from the point and snapped his third goal of the year past Hurricanes goalkeeper Jayden Sittler.
Alfaro made it a 5-1 scoreline on an ICE power-play at 7:08.
Winther added a second goal for Lethbridge with 6:55 to play, as he fired a wrist shot from the slot.
Wyatt Hoflin made 17 saves to collect the victory for Kootenay, while Sittler stopped 33 shots for the Hurricanes.
Alfaro's three points Tuesday matched a career high.

Sam McKechnie's goal 24 seconds into overtime lifted the Saskatoon Blades to a 5-4 victory over the Kootenay ICE Sunday at Western Financial Place.
ICE forward Tim Bozon posted his second hat-trick of 2015, scoring with less than a minute to force extra time as the hosts erased a three-goal deficit to earn a point.
Saskatoon shot out of the gate with two goals inside the first six minutes of the game. Wyatt Sloboshan opened the scoring with a hard slapshot after he came across a loose puck in the slot at 2:14 of the opening period.
Josh Uhrich added a power-play tally just over three minutes later, and the Blades extended their lead to 3-0 with 4:36 remaining in the first frame after defenseman Amil Krupic's shot from the right point sailed through traffic and past Kootenay goaltender Declan Hobbs.
Bozon got the ICE on the board with 29 seconds left in the period, converting from the slot after a pass from the left wing by linemate Matt Alfaro.
McKechnie put Saskatoon up 4-1 early in the second period, but the Kootenay offense struck twice in the latter half of the stanza.
Bozon collected a power-play marker at 11:37 before first-year forward Vince Loschiavo snapped home his fifth goal of the season with 2:27 left in the period to cut the Blades' lead to 4-3.
The ICE pressed for an equalizer, and found one in the final minute of period three. Bozon strode across the blue line and from the right wing rifled a puck over the right shoulder of Saskatoon netminder Brock Hamm for his hat-trick goal.
The Blades would win the extra point early in overtime though, as McKechnie flipped a puck past Hobbs from just outside the Kootenay crease after a hard goalward pass frmo Cameron Hebig.
16 year-old Hobbs, making his first career WHL start, stopped 25 shots for the ICE, while Hamm made 33 saves for Saskatoon.
Jaedon Descheneau had two assists for Kootenay.

Austin Vetterl scored the lone Kootenay goal, while 16 year-old goaltender Declan Hobbs made his first WHL appearance in third period relief action.
Moose Jaw opened the scoring 3:01 into the first period on import forward Axel Blomqvist's 21st tally of the season, then took a 2-0 lead in the opening half-minute of period two on a short-handed solo effort from Eberle.
Point snapped home a third Warriors goal 6:49 into the middle frame as the visitors took a 3-0 lead into the second intermission.
Eberle extended Moose Jaw's lead just shy of the five-minute mark of the third period, as he cut around a defenseman and wired a shot in off the crossbar.
Vetterl added consolation for the ICE, scoring short-handed at 10:38 of the third period before Point completed the scoring ledger with an empty-net marker in the final two minutes of regulation time.
Willms made 24 of his 32 saves in the opening 40 minutes of play, as the two teams combined for 11 power-play opportunities in all.

Five goals in the final nine minutes of the second period helped the Kootenay ICE to a 6-3 victory over the Medicine Hat Tigers Wednesday at Western Financial Place.
Six different ICE skaters found the back of the net, with defenseman Rinat valiev and forward Levi Cable leading the attack with three points each as Kootenay snapped a three-game winless streak.
Cable, appearing in his 250th game with the ICE, got things started 59 seconds into the game, as he tapped a rebound past a prone Medicine Hat netminder Marek Langhamer for his 24th goal of the season.
The one-goal lead held up until early in the middle frame, when Tigers leading goal-getter Cole Sanford put home his 44th tally of the season on a two-man advantage.
Kootenay tested Langhamer with 18 shots in period two, and reclaimed the lead with 8:53 remaining when a shot from Valiev took a deflection and went in.
First-year forward Vince Loschiavo chipped in with a third ICE goal 22 seconds later before Tim Bozon snapped home his 22nd goal of the season shortly thereafter.
Sam Reinhart and Jaedon Descheneau wound down the period with goals 1:45 apart in the latter stages of the period as Kootenay took a 6-1 lead into the second intermission.
Chad Butcher and Markus Eisenschmid added consolation goals in the third period for the Tigers, who outshot the ICE 34-32 on the night.
Kootenay goaltender Wyatt Hoflin made 31 saves Wednesday, while Langhamer stopped 19 of 25 shots for Medicine Hat before being replaced by Nick Schneider at the start of the third period.
UP NEXT: the ICE play host to the Moose Jaw Warriors Friday at Western Financial Place. Game time is 7:00 pm.

Jordan Papirny made 31 saves as the Brandon Wheat Kings defeated the Kootenay ICE 4-1 in Cranbrook Saturday.
Four different Brandon forwards scored, as the Wheat Kings completed a two-game weekend sweep over the ICE at Western Financial Place.
Kootenay outshot Brandon 11-2 in the first period and thought they had taken a 1-0 lead early, but a potential opening goal was called back on account of contact with the goaltender.
The Wheat Kings then opened the scoring officially 7:23 into the first period, with Tim McGauley cashing in on his third goal of the weekend.
Brandon's Nolan Patrick added a second marker just shy of the six-minute mark of the middle frame, firing a wrist shot from the high slot that eluded ICE goaltender Wyatt Hoflin through heavy traffic.
The Wheat Kings added a third marker on a power-play at 6:49 of the third period through Morgan Klimchuk, but Kootenay replied less than 30 seconds later on a quick snapshot from Zak Zborosky.
Brandon forward Reid Duke rounded out the scoring from close range with 7:21 left to play after being set up by linemate Rihards Bukarts on a Wheat King power play.

The Brandon Wheat Kings scored four times in the third period in a 5-3 comeback victory over the Kootenay ICE Friday at Western Financial Place.
Wheat Kings forward Tim McGauley had three points including the game-winning goal as Brandon drew first blood in a two-game weekend series.
Kootenay jumped out to a 1-0 lead just shy of the eight-minute mark thanks to Tim Bozon, who tallied his 21st goal of the season to give the home side the advantage.
Luke Philp added to the ICE lead four minutes later, pouncing on a loose puck in the Wheat Kings slot before wristing it past goaltender Jordan Papirny.
Braylon Shmyr brought the visitors back to within a goal before a late first-period marker from Levi Cable put Kootenay up 3-1 at the intermission.
After a scoreless second period, Brandon's offense came to life. Quintin Lisoway again halved the Wheat King deficit 4:15 into period three, one-timing a shot from the left wing circle past ICE goaltender Wyatt Hoflin for his eighth goal of the season.
The Wheat Kings then scored twice in a 15-second span beginning with a rebound goal from Eric Roy at 7:33 of the third frame. McGauley deflected home a point shot moments later to give Brandon a 4-3 lead.
McGauley then rounded out the scoring with an empty-net tally in the dying seconds.
Papirny made 23 saves to record the win for the Wheat Kings, while Kootenay's Hoflin turned aside 28 shots.
The ICE killed all five Brandon power plays including a double-minor late in the third period.
Kootenay forward Jaedon Descheneau registered his 250th career WHL point with an assist on Philp's goal.

ICE CHIPS: The KOOTENAY ICE enter this week's action with a 27-24-0-1 record (17-9-0-0 at home, 10-15-0-1 on the road, 6-0 in overtime, 1-1 in shootouts) and in fourth place in the CENTRAL DIVISION and seventh place in the new playoff wildcard standings...KOOTENAY, who has won five of the past seven games, will continue a season-high seven game home stand February 6 and 7 versus BRANDON.

The Kelowna Rockets scored four times in the first period en route to a 5-1 victory over the Kootenay ICE Saturday at Western Financial Place.
Edmonton Oilers first-round pick Leon Draisaitl scored a goal and an assist and was named first star as the Rockets snapped Kootenay's four game home winning streak.
Kelowna opened the scoring with a short-handed marker from Rourke Chartier just past the five-minute mark, before defenseman Cole Martin and Draisaitl scored 2:28 apart to give the visitors a 3-0 lead 12:41 into the game.
Gage Quinney added a fourth Rocket goal, but the ICE rounded out the first-period scoring on a power-play blast from Tyler King with ten seconds left in the frame.
16 year-old Dillon Dube padded Kelowna's lead late in the second period before a scoreless final stanza.
Rockets goaltender Jackson Whistle made 25 saves to earn the victory in goal, while Wyatt Hoflin stopped 24 shots at the other end for Kootenay.
Riley Stadel and Tyson Baillie both enjoyed multi-point nights for Kelowna, each chipping in with two assists.
Levi Cable and Vince Loschiavo had assists for the ICE.
UP NEXT: The ICE entertain the Brandon Wheat Kings for a pair of games Friday, February 6 and Saturday, February 7. Both contests start at 7:00 pm at Western Financial Place.
