Three first-period goals paced the Calgary Hitmen to a 6-2 victory over the Kootenay ICE Monday at Scotiabank Saddledome.
The ICE got goals from Sam Reinhart and Jaedon Descheneau, but saw their season come to a close in Game Seven of the Eastern Conference Quarter-Final.
Calgary fired 10 shots at the Kootenay goal in the first period, taking the lead at 1:12 through Connor Rankin. The twenty year-old scored a hat-trick in the opening frame, with one of his three goals coming on the power-play.
Chase Lang helped the Hitmen to a 4-0 lead 4:44 into period two before the ICE found the scoresheet later in the frame. Reinhart deflected home a Cale Fleury point shot at 14:36 for his sixth goal of the playoffs.
Calgary restored their four-goal advantage at 3:31 of the third period through Radel Fazleev. His goal was cancelled out by Descheneau 24 seconds later before Hitmen captain Kenton Helgesen rounded out the scoring with 4:48 to play.
Kootenay goaltender Wyatt Hoflin made 29 saves Monday, while Calgary netminder Mck Shields turned aside 11 shots.
The Hitmen will move on to face the Medicine Hat Tigers in the Eastern Conference Semi-Final.
