Kennewick, Wash – The Kootenay ICE beat Tri City 5-4 in WHL exhibition action on Thursday night.
ICE lone goal of the 1st period came on their 1st shot as Brendan Hurley won a race for the puck in the Americans zone for a 2-on-1 chance and fed Kurt Johnas in the slot who scored on a one timer through the goalies legs.
Early in the 2nd period the ICE scored on the powerplay as Jaedon Descheneau found the puck in the slot and showed patience before scoring with a snap shop on the stick side.
ICE tied the game 3-3 as Hurley battled to get the puck to the net and Sam Reinhart tucked in the loose puck in the crease behind the fallen goalie.
Midway through the 2nd period the ICE changed goalies as Mackenzie Skapski replaced Brett Teskey.
In the 3rd period the ICE tied the game 4-4 on a brief 5-on-3 powerplay as Sam Reinhart got his 2nd of the game on a scramble near the crease. Reinhart found the puck and raised it into the net.
The ICE got their 1st lead of the night as Luke Philp got the game winner on a rebound off a point shot from Spencer Wand and scored with a wrist shot high on the glove side.
ICE dressed 12 rookies and they scored all 5 of their goals.
ICE will play Everett on Friday afternoon.
