Kootenay 8 Victoria 3 Game #22

Victoria, BC – Kootenay ICE forward Elgin Pearce scored his 1st career hattrick and Jesse Ismond had a career best 5-point game in a 8-3 win over the Victoria Royals in WHL action on Saturday night.

ICE opened the scoring on the first shift of the game with Jesse Ismond putting in his own rebound.
Skating 4-on-4 the ICE made it 2-0 as Imsond and Elgin Pearce turned a 2-on-2 break in to a 2-on-none and Pearce completed the passing play with a redirection in the crease.
Luke Paulsen made it 3-0 on a slap shot from the blueline that beat the screened goalie on the stick side.

In the second period Drew Czerwonka was stopped on a shorthanded breakaway and Ismond put in the rebound for his 1st career short-handed goal.
The ICE made it 5-0 on a Pearce redirection of a Jagger Dirk point shot.
On a delayed penalty Czerwonka snapped a shot through the goalies’ legs to make it 6-0 and the Royals changed goalies with Jared Rathjen replacing Keith Hamilton.
The ICE scored on the 1st 2 shots on the new goalie, Pearce completed his 1st career hattrick on a 2-on-1 with McKinlay and then on another delayed penalty Jaedon Descheneau scored on a wrist shot high on the stick side.
Going into the game the ICE season high was 3 goals in a period and 5 goals in a game, they scored 5 in the second period.

MacKenzie Skapski stopped a penalty shot from Austin Carrol with 7 seconds left in the game.

Hayden Rintoul, who is the Royals Captain, played 222 games with the ICE (188 regular season, 29 playoffs, 5 Memorial Cup). He is one of two ICE career defenseman to score a hat-trick and one of three defensmen to register a 5-point game.

The ICE B.C. Division trip has them in Vancouver on Sunday.
