Cranbrook, BC – The Tri City Americans scored 4 goals in less than 4 minutesi n the 3rd period in a 5-4 win over the Kootenay ICE in WHL action on Wednesday night.
The ICE (12-4-1-2) opened the scoring on a powerplay that featured 5 forwards and clicked 13-seconds in the man-advantage as an Elgin Pearce shot was deflected through the goalies’ legs by Jesse Ismond.
Late in the period the ICE made it 2-0 on a 2-on-1 break as Adam Rossignol and Brock Montgomery went back and forth with passes and Montgomery finally tucked it behind the goalie.
Midway through the 2nd period the Americans (13-5-0-0) scored on the powerplay with Brendan Shinnimin scoring on a onetime slap shot from the high slot.
The ICE regained a 2-goal lead on the powerplay as Dylen McKinlay from behind the net fed Jesse Ismond near the net and scored with a wrist shot high on the stickside.
The Americans scored 3 goals in a 2:14 span on a powerplay goal by Jordan Messier, Brendan Shinnimin with his 2nd of the game and Patrick Holland 2nd of the year.
The Americans made it 5-3 on another powerplay as Shinnimin fed a wide open Adam Hughesman and scored his 14th of the year.
Jesse Ismond completed his 3rd career hat-trick with the goalie on the bench and pushed a loose puck behind the goalie into the net.
Tri City starting goalie Eric Comrie is the younger brother of former ICE Captain Mike who played 37 games for the club in 2000. In his short WHL career he had 39 goals and 40 assists for 79 points. He has the Franchise record for most goals in a game by a rookie (4), longest goal streak (12 games), longest point streak (21 games), goals by a rookie (39) and scored the 1st goal in Rec-Plex history.
Comrie and ICE goalie Nathan Lieuwen are 2 of only 10 goalies to ever be selected in the 1st round of the WHL Bantam Draft. Comrie 13th overall in 2010 and Lieuwen 16th overall 2006.
