Spokane, Wash – Kootenay ICE forward Sam Reinhart had 2 goals and 2 assists in a 7-3 win over the Spokane Chiefs in WHL action on Saturday night.
The ICE (11-24-1-0) opened the scoring with Erik Benoit getting a rebound in the middle slot and scoring with a shot high on the glove side.
The Chiefs (24-11-1-0) tied the game with Todd Fiddler lifting a backhand shot over the the goalies’ shoulder.
Kootenay tooka 2-1 lead on a 2-on-1 break with Kyle )’Conner feeding Austin Vetterl who scored with a wrist shot that went off the goalies’ arm into the net.
Spokane tied the game again with Dylan Walchuk spinning around with a backhand shot that was ruled a goal after the Referee, who whistled the play dead, apparently changed his original call a few seconds later when he went to the net.
Early in the second period the Chiefs scored on a 2-man advantage with Todd Fiddler scoring on a one-time shot.
ICE tied the game 3-3 on a powerplay goal from Sam Reinhart who stepped into a wrist shot that beat the goalie high on the glove side.
ICE regained the lead again with Levi Cable’s backhand shot near the crease was stopped by the goalie and went into the net off a defenseman’s skate.
ICE made it 5-3 with Tanner Faith notching his 1st career goal with a wrist shot high on the stick side.
Early in the 3rd period Sam Reinhart got his 2nd of the game after finding a rebound near the crease.
Joey Leach ended the scoring with a powerplay point shot that beat the goalie high on the stick side.
Jaedon Descheneau had a career high 3 point game.
Going into the game the Ice had scored 3 goals in their last 4 games.
This was the 36th game of the season which is the official halfway point of the season.
