Alex Forsberg scored twice, including the game-winner, and Nik Amundrud made 31 saves for his first career WHL win as the Saskatoon Blades defeated the Kootenay ICE 5-2 in Saskatoon Wednesday.
Kootenay forward Jaedon Descheneau scored once, and in doing so became the 13th player in ICE franchise history to record 200 career regular season points.
Kootenay opened the scoring 78 seconds into the game through Zak Zborosky, but the Blades quickly answered back thanks to Forsberg, tying the game at 1-1 before it was two minutes old.
The ICE reclaimed the lead through Descheneau, who beat Amundrud for his team-leading sixth goal of the season off a feed from linemate Luke Philp at 10:15.
Saskatoon took a 3-2 lead into the first intermission, however, first equalizing on a wrist-shot from Isaac Schacher at 15:07 before going ahead on Forsberg's second tally 2:15 later.
Cameron Hebig extended the Blades' lead on a power-play two and a half minutes into the second period before Josh Uhrich rounded out the scoring with 6:14 remaining in the game.
Kootenay goaltender Keelan Williams made 35 saves in the loss. River Beattie, Austin Vetterl and Levi Cable each added assists.
UP NEXT: The ICE will play seven of its next eight games at Western Financial Place, beginning Friday night against the Calgary Hitmen. Game time is 7:00 pm.
