Two goals in a 15-second span helped pace the Victoria Royals to a 4-0 victory over the Kootenay ICE Saturday in Cranbrook.
Victoria goaltender Coleman Vollrath stopped 27 shots to record his first shutout of the season, while the ICE lost on home ice for the first time this season.
The Royals opened the scoring on a first period power-play, as blueliner Travis Brown found the back of the net.
Victoria carried a 1-0 lead through to the waning moments of the second period, when off a face-off to the left Kootenay goaltender Wyatt Hoflin, Royals forward Brandon Magee fed a cross-crease pass to linemate Brandon Fushimi, who outwaited the ICE netminder to score his third goal of the season.
Axel Blomqvist added to the Victoria lead a quarter-minute later, again off a setup from Magee to give the Royals a 3-0 lead through 40 minutes.
Logan Fisher added an insurance marker for the visitors 6:06 into the third period.
Hoflin, making his second start in as many days, recorded 25 saves in the Kootenay goal.
UP NEXT: The ICE hit the road for a pair of mid-week games beginning Tuesday in Prince Albert. The next home action for Kootenay is Friday, October 24th against the Calgary Hitmen.
