Cranbrook, BC – Kootenay ICE forwards Elgin Pearce and Sam Reinhart had 1 goal and 1 assist in a 3-2 win over the Red Deer Rebels in WHL action on Wednesday night.
Joe Antilla was on their line and had 2 assists.
The ICE (10-3-0-2) opened the scoring as Sam Reinhart was alone in front of the goalie and scored on the backhand on his own rebound.
Three minutes later the ICE made it 2-0 as Sam Reinhart and Joe Antilla won a battle for the puck in the corner a fed Elgin Pearce in the low slot who scored with a quick wrist shot on the glove side.
In the second period Jon Martin scored his 1st career goal as he received a pass from Jesse Ismond from the top of the circle and redirected it behind the goalie.
Three minutes later the Rebels’ (8-4-0-0) Mason Burr scored his 1st career goal as he put in a Mathew Dumba rebound near the crease.
In the third period on a delayed penalty the Rebels got within a goal as Mathew Dumba fed Dalton Siwak in the low circle and had an open net for the goal.
Rebels pulled the goalie with 1:30 and had their best chance with 5 seconds left in the game as Mathew Dumba had an open from 25 feet away and could find the net with the shot.
The ICE will host Portland on Saturday. Fans are encouraged to dress up in their Halloween costumes. During the game, prizes will be awarded to some of the best costumes.
The WHL will name the rosters for the 2011 Super Series on Thursday and ICE forward Max Reinhart should be receiving serious consideration for an invite.
The WHL U-16 tournament starts Thursday in Moose Jaw with ICE prospect Collin Shirley on Team Saskatchewan.
