Regina, Sask – Kootenay ICE forward Sam Reinhart scored 2 goals and 1 assist, including the game winner, in a 3-2 overtime win over the Regina Pats in WHL action on Wednesday night.
In the first period the Pats (25-17-4-1) had a 5-on-3 powerplay for 56 seconds and scored on a rebound by Morgan Klimchuk.
Regina had a goal disallowed after a goalie interference penalty from Dyson Stevenson.
In the second period he ICE (26-13-2-3) tied the game on the powerplay with Brock Montgomery stepping into a slapshot that beat the goalie high on the glove side.
17 seconds later the Pats took a 2-1 lead off a faceoff in the ICE zone where Dyson Stevenson found a wide open Morgan Klimchuk for an open net goal.
In the third period the ICE tied the game 2-2 on powerplay rebound goal from Sam Reinhart.
For the third game in a row the ICE go into overtime.
The ICE called a timeout with 37 seconds left in an overtime powerplay and the planned play works with Max Reinhart doing a cross ice pass to the back door for Sam Reinhart who redirected the puck underneath the goalie.
Max Reinhart had 3 assists.
It was the first win by the ICE when trailing after 2 periods and their first overtime win.
The ICE will visit Moose Jaw on Friday.
