Moose Jaw, Sask – The Moose Jaw Warriors beat the Kootenay ICE 6-5 in overtime in WHL action on Friday night.
In the first period the ICE (26-13-3-3) were called for 3 straight penalties resulting in two 5-on-3 powerplays for the Warriors. During a penalty kill Dylen McKinlay fed Eric Benoit on a breakaway and he scored a shorthanded goal with a wrist shot high on the glove side.
The Warriors (28-14-4-1) scored a 5-on-3 powerplay goal and a 5-on-4 powerplay goal to take a lead on goals by Kenton Miller and Andrew Johnson.
The ICE tied the game 2-2 on a waist high deflection of a Joe Antilla point shot by Sam Reinhart who set a Franchise record for goals by a 16-year-old. (15 Nigel Dawes 2001-02)
Before the end of the period the Warriors scored on a 3-on-2 break with a shot from Eric Arnold.
Late in the second period Jon Martin put in a Levi Cable rebound to tie the game 3-3.
In the third period Jon Martin got his 2nd of the game on another rebound as he dove at the loose puck in the crease and chipped it in.
Off a face-off win in the ICE zone the Warriors tied the game with defenseman Kendall McFaulls’ shot from point.
The ICE took a 5-4 lead on a powerplay rebound goal from Brock Montgomery.
16 seconds later Joel Edmundson tied the game with a long shot from the blueline.
For the fourth straight game the ICE go to overtime.
Andrew Johnson scored the winner on a rebound.
Sam Reinhart has 6 goals in his last 6 games and extends his point streak to 3 games (4-2-6).
The ICE will visit Brandon on Saturday.

Moose Jaw defenseman Dylan McIlrath didn’t play after receiving an 8-game suspension for a check to the head in their last game against Victoria. #1 Goalie Luke Siemens wasn’t in the line-up for the second straight game for undisclosed reasons. Forward Sam Fioretti, who is the Warriors leading point getter besides the newly acquired Cam Braes and James Henry, missed the game with an upper body injury.
