Edmonton, Alb – The Edmonton Oil Kings scored 3 quick goals early in the second period in a 4-2 win over the Kootenay ICE in WHL action on Wednesday afternoon.
The Oil Kings (36-11-2-3) opened the scoring in the first period with Luke Bertolucci coming down the left wing with a shot that beat the goalie on the stick side.
In the second period the Oil Kings scored 2 goals 7 seconds apart with TJ Foster and Cody Corbett getting the goals and 1 1/2 minutes Curtis Lazar scored to make it 4-0.
ICE (23-26-2-0) Joey Leach scored late in the period with a shot that deflected off an Edmonton stick and over the goalie’s head and landed in the net.
Leach has 25 career goals which ties him with Chad Greenan for 5th All-Time,
In the third period Sam Reinhart scored on a 2-man advantage on a behind the net pass from Brock Montgomery.
The teams split the 6-game regular season series 3-3 with the home team winning every game.
Wyatt Hoflin made his 1st start since December 18th and was his 2nd appearance in January.
Sam Reinhart (14 games), Luke Philp (4 games) and Joey Leach (3 games) extended their point streaks.
This was the 4th straight year the ICE were the opposition in Edmonton for an 11:30am start time and the ICE won 2 of the 3 previous meetings.
The ICE will visit Red Deer on Thursday.
