Cranbrook, BC – Kootenay ICE forwards Sam Reinhart, Erik Benoit and Jaedon Descheneau each had 1 goal and 1 assist in a 4-1 win over he Swift Current Broncos in WHL action on Friday night.
The ICE (14-24-1-0) opened the scoring midway through the first period with a powerplay deflection by Brock Montgomery off a point shot from Tanner Faith.
In the second period Sam Reinhart scored his 1st career shorthanded goal to make it 2-0.
Late in the period Erik Benoit won the puck in the corner and fed Jaedon Descheneau scored with a quick shot high on the blocker side.
The Broncos (17-20-3-2) scored early in the third period with Tanner LeSann scoring his 4th of the season and Adam Lowry extended his point streak to 16 games with an assist.
The Broncos tried to pull their goalie with 2:45 left and when he got halfway to the bench he tried to turnaround and get back in his crease but Erik Benoit beat him from centre ice with a long shot to make the final 4-1.
Brock Montgomery, Joey Leach and Levi Cable extended their point streaks to 4 games.
Goalie Mackenzie Skapski was named the ICE Player of the Month for December.
Collin Shirley (5 GP 0-1-1) and Team West finished in 9th Place in the U-17 tournament in Quebec.
Last year Jon Martin, Jaedon Descheneau and Sam Reinhart played in the U-17 and 2 years ago Mackenzie Skapski also played in the event.
Broncos’ netminder Steven Myland was a 10th round pick of the ICE and was a part of the 8-for-deal deal for Cody Eakin.
The ICE will host Red Deer on Sunday.
