Deadline Notes

The ICE roster is now at 20 players, 2 G, 5 D, 13 F.
Jeff Chynoweth tried to add 20-year-old defenseman Ryler Miller, who was released by Brandon this week, but he chose to play in MJHL.
Chynoweth says he will now look at Junior A or a list player to fill 1-2 roster spots.
Looked at offers for Brock Montgomery and Joey Leach but no deal made sense for present or future.
Their leadership is very important to the young club.
20 of the 31 remaining games are on the road and the goal is to make the playoffs.

ICE Trade Benoit To Saskatoon

Cranbrook, BC – Jeff Chynoweth, General Manager of the Kootenay ICE Hockey Club, today announced the Club has traded 19-year-old Forward Erik Benoit to the Saskatoon Blades in exchange for a fourth round draft pick in the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft.
"Erik came to us a few months ago and requested a trade. This caught us off guard as we had no intention of trading him. Ideally we would have liked to acquire a player in return, but our options were very limited. We wish Erik all the best with the Blades.” added Chynoweth
As a result of today's transaction, the ICE have 20 players on their roster and eight picks in the first five rounds of the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft including one in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th rounds, and four in the 5th round.
The next home action for the ICE will be tomorrow night as they host the Medicine Hat Tigers at 7:00 pm. Tickets are available at the Kootenay ICE Office or by calling 250-417-0322.

Kootenay 4 Red Deer 1 Game #38

Cranbrook, BC – Kootenay ICE forward Luke Philp scored twice in a 4-1 win over the Red Deer Rebels in WHL action on Wednesday night.

The ICE (13-24-1-0) opened the scoring midway through the first period off a turnover at the Rebels blue line with Jaedeon Descheneau feeding Sam Reinhart near the crease for a redirection into the top of the net.

In the second period the ICE took a 2-0 lead with Luke Philp making a couple of shifty moves to get to the slot and scored with a shot high on the stick side.

The Rebels (22-16-2-1) scored midway through the third period off a turnover Rhyse Dieno finished off a 2-on-1 break with his 10th of the season.
Kootenay scored on the powerplay with Luke Philp finding a loose puck near the net and tucked it in behind the goalie.
The Rebels pulled their goalie with 1:12 left and Jeff Hubic, in his 93rd career game, scored his 1st career goal.

For the third time this season the ICE are on a 3-game winning streak while the Rebels have lost 3 in a row.
