Regina 4 Kootenay 2 Game #39

Cranbrook, BC – The Regina Pats beat the Kootenay ICE 4-2 in WHL action on Saturday night.

The Pats (31-23-5-1) scored late in the first period on a 3-on-2 break and a passing play got a wide open Dryden Hunt for the goal. Hunt was born in Kimberley.

The ICE (32-19-4-4) were called for 5 straight penalties in the period and killed them all only to have the Pats make it 2-0 on an even strength goal by Jordan Weal.
ICE Assistant Coach Jerry Bancks received a game misconduct late in the period when the referee saw him clapping his hands on the bench. He was trying to encourage his players but the official felt he was being mocked. There was no warning, just a quick response and he was told to leave the game.

In the third period the ICE scored 2 goals in 1:12 span to tie the game 2-2.
On the powerplay Luke Paulsen stepped in from the blueline and scored with a wrist shot that beat the screened goalie high on the glove side.
Spencer Wand picked off a pass at centre ice and gained the Pats zone, dropped a pass to Max Reinhart who stepped into a slap shot that beat the goalie on the glove side.
With 7 minutes left in the game the Pats received 4 more straight powerplays to end the game including their 2nd and 3rd 2-man advantages.
Jeff Hubic recieved a charging major giving the Pats a 5-minute powerplay. Brandon Davidson was hit on the play but didn't miss any shifts.
Chandler Stephenson scored the game winning goal on a breakaway that was created with a pick play at the blueline.
3 ICE players received 10-minute misconducts with Max Reinhart, Dylen McKinlay and Luke Paulsen removed from the game.
Pats added and empty net powerplay goal from Lane Scheidl.

16-year-old forward Luke Philp will join the club for their 4-game road trip. He played for AJHL Canmore and they did not qualify for the playoffs. He lead the Eagles in scoring 48 GP 16-30-46 28pm. With the ICE this season 10 GP 0-1-1 0pm.
The ICE will start a 4-game trip in Brandon on Tuesday.

ICE Scratches – Mike Simpson, Drew Czerwonka (1st game, lower body, week-to-week).

Josh Dueck From Kimberley

Josh Dueck was injured eight years ago in a skiing accident in which he went ten stories in the air instead of three. Now he's partly paralyzed, but that hasn't stopped him from doing what he loves! Not only is he skiing again, but he just became the first person to do a backflip on a sit ski!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HhTzafaatH8

Working as head coach of the Silver Star Freestyle Ski Club in Vernon, Josh was preparing students for the 2004 Canadian junior nationals. On a demonstration jump, he was too fast and overshot the landing hill. He dropped 100 feet, breaking his back and flipping his world upside-down. At 23, Josh was paralyzed from the waist down.

Just nine months after the fall, Josh was back on the hill. Since ...then, he’s has been an international winner for the Canadian Para Alpine Ski Team, winning the world championships in 2009. And this year, he won a silver medal in the men’s sitting slalom at the Paralympic Winter Games.

Josh credits three lessons learned from his injury:

- Trust your gut instinct when it says something is wrong.
- Know that how you see the world shapes what you can do.
- Find your passion, and dream big.
