WHL Notes July 20

Former ICE Captain Ryan Russell has signed with the Montreal Canadiens to a one-year, two-way contract.
Russell played in 74 games with the Bulldogs in 2009-10. He finished sixth on the team with 37 points (19 goals, 18 assists), and led the team with three shorthanded goals.
Russell added 12 points (7-5-12) in 19 playoff games.

ICE Alumni Brett Sutter has signed a one year contract with the Calgary Flames.
Last season in the AHL with Abbotsford 66 GP 24 points. In the playoffs he led the Heat team in scoring with 11 points.
Sutter played 10 games with the Flames.

Portland Winterhawks Matt Bardsley has been promoted to the position of Director of Hockey Operations.
Bardsley joined the Winterhawks in 1999 as a scout before moving into the front office. He spent the last two seasons as advance scout, evaluating other teams’ rosters and list players and assisting Johnston with trade discussions and player evaluations.
