Cranbrook, BC -- Jeff Chynoweth, General Manager of the Kootenay ICE Hockey Club today announced the Club has traded 16-year-old Forward Hudson Elynuik to the Spokane Chiefs in exchange for 18-year-old Defenseman Tyler King
“Heading into the WHL Trade Deadline (January 10th) we were hoping to add a veteran defenseman and possibly an older forward. This transaction allows us to get a defenseman who regularly plays top four minutes in Spokane and has for the majority of the past two years. Unfortunately to get a player like Tyler we had to give up a young player in Hudson Elynuik who should have lots of potential moving forward in his WHL career. We wish Hudson all the best with the Chiefs,” added Chynoweth.
Tyler King is in his third season in the WHL and was the Chiefs first round selection (17th overall) in the 2010 WHL Bantam Draft. He will be in the ICE line-up Thursday when Kootenay travels to Medicine Hat.
As a result of today’s transaction the ICE are now carrying 24 players, including two goaltenders, nine defenseman and 13 forwards.

10 Things
1. The 10-day break for the holidays is done and the ICE will play 3 games in the next 4 days. It’s the second year in a row they will start the past Xmas schedule with a home and home with Spokane.
2. Last year after losing 1-0 at home to Spokane, the next night they won 7-3 in Spokane which started a 7 game winning streak and a stretch of games where they won 12 of 13.
3. After being 1-3 skaters short of a complete line-up the ICE will have a full line-up going into the weekend. Jagger Dirk (3 games), Ryan Chynoweh (6 games) and Rinat Valiev (5 games) should be off the injured list.
4. 16-year-old defenseman Dylan Overdyk and 16-year-old forward Austin Wellsby have been added to the roster for the next few weeks.
5. Wellsby, 4th round pick in 2012, will make his WHL debut while Overdyk, 2nd round pick in 2012, played 1 game in September.
6. It’s been a long time since the ICE played a game without Dirk in the line-up. According to my records he played in 245 consecutive regular season games. He is 3rd in team history with only Adam Taylor (289) and Andrew Bailey (276) with longer streaks.
7. It’s good news for the rest of the WHL as the ICE will not be playing on New Years’ Eve this season as they have a career record of 7-3-0 on December 31st.
8. Sam Reinhart and Team Canada have 3 round robin games left at the WJHC

Starlite Campaign
Cranbrook, BC – It’s been an annual Kootenay ICE tradition to “Shoot for the Star” since the Starlite Campaign began.
Since then the ICE organization and some of its well-known alumni ICE players such as Matt Fraser, Drew Czerwonka, Jesse Ismond, Max Reinhart, Brayden McNabb, Cody Eakin, James Martin & Kevin King took an interest in fundraising for health care through East Kootenay Foundation for Health. The momentum added to the Starlite Campaign by the ICE through game night events, jersey donations and fan donations has reached almost the $40,000 mark.
This year EKFH is taking a different approach to “Shoot for the Star” by honouring one of the stars on the ice - #23 Sam Reinhart. EKFH Chair Brian Clifford explains, “We felt it was a fantastic opportunity for EKFH to say thanks to fans and the ICE for all their Starlite spirit over the years by honouring Sam Reinhart, one of their stars, who is expected to be a forerunner in the 2014 NHL Drafts. “
Although honouring the young and talented center man the Starlite Campaign is still focused on fundraising with a goal of lighting 17 stars and raising $150,000 for community health care initiatives.
EKFH is encouraging fans to consider honouring Reinhart ($5,000 to light a star before the end of January) by making a donation to EKFH and the Starlite Campaign through three different options.
1. Starting now until – January 31, 2014 - Make a donation through www.ekfh.ca, click donate now, select Starlite – Show Your Star Appreciation – Sam Reinhart Kootenay ICE.
2. Starting now until – January 31, 2014 – Make a donation at the Kootenay ICE or East Kootenay Foundation for Health offices.
3. December 27, 2013 – make a donation at the EKFH/Denham Ford “Shoot for the Truck” Event.
At the February 1, 2014 home game, East Kootenay Foundation for Health will show its appreciation to the Kootenay ICE and all the players (past and current) who have supported the foundation by offering the first 950 fans through the main entrance doors a Sam Reinhart bobble head (one per person per paid ticket).
The Starlite Campaign and the East Kootenay Foundation for Health’s mission are to support and strengthen health care initiatives in the East Kootenay. The stars are waiting to shine, on and off the ice... to show your support for Sam and all the ICE players please consider a donation to the Starlite Campaign; www.ekfh.ca.
EKFH is a leader in publically supported health care fund raising practicing responsible allocation of funds that ensures your money is going where it is needed most.

Hubic Traded
Cranbrook, BC – Jeff Chynoweth, General Manager of the Kootenay ICE Hockey Club today announced the Club has traded 19-year-old Defenseman Jeff Hubic to the Tri-City Americans in exchange for a seventh round draft pick in the 2014 WHL Bantam Draft.
“With Tanner Faith coming back this weekend from his injury we would have had eight defensemen on our active roster. As a three year player in this League we did not feel comfortable with Jeff being in and out of our line-up on a regular basis. Tri-Cities is down to five healthy defensemen and this trade will give Jeff an opportunity to continue his WHL career with the Americans. We wish Jeff all the best in Tri-Cities,” added Chynoweth.
As a result of today’s transaction the ICE are now carrying 22 players, including two goaltenders, seven defensemen and 13 forwards.
The next home action for the ICE will be when they host the two-time defending Eastern Conference Champions, Edmonton Oil Kings Saturday, November 30th at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are available at the Kootenay ICE office or by calling 250-417-0322.
