Brandon 3 Kootenay 2 Game #58

Brandon, Man – The Brandon Wheat Kings scored a late 3rd period powerplay goal in a 3-2 win over the Kootenay ICE in WHL action on Friday.

The ICE (27-29-2-0) opened the scoring in the second period on the powerplay with Brock Montgomery near the crease for an open net goal.
The Wheat Kings (21-34-2-2) tied the game 3 minutes later with Jack Palmer alone in the slot for a wrist shot goal.
Late in the period Ryan Pulock scored to give the Wheat Kings a 2-1 after 2 periods.

Early in the third period Austin Vetterl tied the game with a wrist shot high on the stick side.
Late in the period the Wheat Kings made it 3-2 with a powerplay goal from Jayce Hawryluk.

Jaedon Descheneau (4 games), Sam Reinhart (4 games) and Brock Montgomery (3 games) extended their point streaks.

Brandon’s starting goalie Jordan Papirny made his 2nd career start and 3rd career WHL appearance, earned his 1st win.

The ICE will visit Brandon on Saturday.

15-year-old defenseman Troy Murray, ICE 1st pick in 2012 Bantam Draft, did not join the club this weekend as planned after suffering an injury on Wednesday.
