Kootenay 4 Spokane 1 Game #54

Cranbrook, BC – Kootenay ICE goalie Mackenzie Skapski made 31 saves, including 17 in the 2nd period, in a 4-1 win over the Spokane Chiefs in WHL action on Friday.

Austin Vetterl had 1 goal and 1 assist and Zach McPhee had 2 assist to lead the offense.

The ICE (25-27-2-0) opened the scoring with 2 goals 2 ½ minutes apart on rebound goals by Jon Martin on the backhand and Levi Cable on the forehand.

The Chiefs (31-21-2-0) scored midway through the second period with a powerplay goal from Mitch Holmberg.

Early in the third period the ICE made it 3-1 with Luke Philp coming down the right wing with a slap shot that went off the goalies’ shoulder and rolled into the net.
Off a faceoff in the Chiefs zone Austin Vetterl was alone in the slot for a shot through the goalies’ legs.
The Chiefs changed goalies with Garret Hughson replacing Eric Williams.

Brock Montgomery (4 games) and Jagger Dirk (3 games) extended their point streaks.
Sam Reinhart had his point streak halted at 16 games.
The ICE will host Moose Jaw on Saturday.
