For the 4th time this season the ICE were shutout as Martin Jones backstopped the Hitmen to a 2-0. The insurance goal was into an empty net.
For the 1st time this season the ICE used a 1-4 forecheck and that took Calgary's mobile defense out of the game. After Calgary had a 1-0 lead they also play the system known as the trap.
ICE had 20 shots on goal in the 2nd period but with 5 of their top 9 forwards not in the line-up the goals have been hard to come by lately.
A 5-game homestand starts Friday against Vancouver.
Saturday is the trade deadline.
I don't expect the ICE to trade any of their future to help for this year but do need 2 forwards with injuries to Dustin Sylvester and Steele Boomer. Plus with the club losing 3 defensmen to graduation (Negrin, Barteaux & Frere) they also have some holes to fill for next year. But if needed they could be filled with trades in the off season.
