Cranbrook, BC – Kootenay ICE forward Cody Eakin had 1 goal and 1 assist in a 3-1 win over the Moose Jaw Warriors, to take a 3-2 series lead, in WHL playoff action on Friday night.
For the 1st time in the series there were no goals in the 1st period.
Warriors forward Dylan Hood was awarded a penalty shot at 7:40 and hit the goal post.
It's the 7th time a penalty shot has been awarded in an ICE playoff game and all have been given to the opponents. In history the ICE goalies have stopped 6 of the 7 penalty shots.
In his regular season career Nathan Lieuwen is 5-for-5 in penalty shots.
In the 2nd period the ICE opened the scoring 4-seconds into a powerplay as they got the puck to the left point and Max Reinhart stepped into a slap shot the ricocheted between the goalies legs.
In the 3rd period Steele Boomer made a big defensive play near his net and the ICE went the other way on the attack and got the puck to Cody Eakin who was on-on-one with a defenseman and scored with a wrist shot high on the stick side.
Skating 4-on-4 the Warriors scored as Morgan Rielly fed Quinton Howden at the far post and he one-timed the pass into the net.
The goal ended Nathan Lieuwen's shutout streak at 116:48.
Moose Jaw had a powerplay with 2:35 left in the game and pulled their goalie with about 1:30 left. ICE attempted to clear the puck around the boards and took a weird bounce of the glass and it went between their defense to the neutral zone where Joe Antilla picked it up and skated to the crease to put the puck into the net.
Joe Antilla and Cody Eakin have goals in 2 straight games.
Antilla has tied a Franchise record with 2 SHG in one playoff season (Martin Sagat 2005). He also ties Sagat for most career playoff SHG.
ICE forward Jesse Ismond returned after missing 2 games.
Because of injuries the ICE were 1 player short of a complete lineup.
ICE Scratches – Luke Paulsen, Drew Czerwonka, Brock Montgomery.
Warriors Scratches – Dallas Ehrhardt, Cody Beach, Brayden Cuthbert, Tanner Eberle, Torrin White, Matt Grant, Matt Franczyk.
