Saskatoon, Sask – Kootenay ICE forward Joe Antilla scored at 18:32 of overtime in a 3-2 win over the Saskatoon Blades, in the 2nd game of the 2nd round of the playoffs, in WHL Playoff action on Saturday night.
Max Reinhart had 1 goal and 2 assists to extend his goal streak to 4 games. The Franchise Record is 6 games by Adam Cracknell in 2005.
Matt Fraser had the other goal and has 6 goals in his last 3 games.
ICE career playoff overtime record is now 20-10.
Antilla is now the only active player with a playoff overtime goal.
It’s he 2nd time in ICE playoff history they have won road games to start a series. In 2008 they beat Medicine Hat eventually in 5 games. In that series the ICE also won game 2 in overtime.
Blades forced overtime with their goalie on the bench and Brayden Schenn’s point shot deflected off 2 ICE players into the net.
Schenn earned 57 points in 22 regular season games and went pointless in only 4 games. He was held without a point in back-to-back games only once. Schenn did not earn a point in the last of the series against Prince Albert and the 1st game of the series against Kootenay.
The 50/50 total pool in game 1 yesterday was over $44,000. In game 2 tonight it was near $20,000 before the opening face-off and surpassed $40,000 in the 2nd intermission. Saskatoon is one of the buildings that uses the live total pool update on the scoreclock screen.
Because of an injury and an illness the ICE were 1 player short of having a complete line-up of forwards.
For the 2nd game in a row defenseman John Neibrandt played on forward.
15-year-old Sam Reinhart joined the club for the week but was not allowed to play in game 2 as per Hockey Canada’s decision. Reinhart has played the limit of 5 games and his team (BC AAA Midget Vancouver NW Giants) will be involved in the Telus Cup April 18-24 in Newfoundland.
ICE scratches – Brock Montgomery, Drew Czerwonka, Sam Reinhart.
Blades scratches – Levi Bews, Tommy Stipancik, Alex Elliott.
