Calgary, Alb – Kootenay ICE forward Brock Montgomery scored his 1st career hat-trick and goalie Mackenzie Skapski made 17 saves for his 2nd shutout in a 4-0 win over the Calgary Hitmen in WHL action on Monday night.
The win ends their losing streak at 8 games and stopped Calgary's winning streak at 5 games.
ICE (5-12-1-0) scored on the first shift of the game with Brock Montgomery ending a 7-game goalless streak with a rebound goal near the crease.
On the powerplay Montgomery notched his 2nd of the game with a wrist shot that beat the goalie low on the stick side.
It’s Montgomery’s 3rd multi-goal game of the season and 5th of his career.
In the second period the Hitmen (13-5-1-2) didn’t get a shot on goal until 3 minutes remained in the period.
In the third period Montgomery completed the hat-trick on a 5-on-3 powerplay with a redirection from the top of the crease.
Calgary pulled the goalie with 2 ½ minutes left and Zach McPhee scored into the empty net.
