Knoblauch To OHL

The Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League have announced that Robbie Ftorek has been relieved from his role as head coach. The announcement was made by Otters Managing Partner and General Manager Sherry Bassin.
Ftorek was in his sixth season as head coach of the Otters. He led the Otters to their third-best win total in franchise history with a 40-win campaign during the 2010-2011 season.
“Robbie has a distinguished career in coaching and is one of the classiest people in the game,” Bassin said. “He is a great mentor on and off the ice. I decided after considerable thought to make this difficult decision and to move in a different direction. The entire Otters family has the utmost respect for Robbie, Wendy and their family and expect that he will go on to bigger and better opportunities.”
“Based on this decision, I negotiated through the night and am happy to announce that Kris Knoblauch has accepted, in principle, the position as head coach of the Erie Otters.”
Knoblauch will join the Otters in time for Friday’s game in Sault Ste. Marie. Peter Sidorkiewicz will remain with the Otters as assistant coach.

Kootenay 5 Edmonton 4 SO Game #24
Cranbrook, BC – Kootenay ICE forward Luke Philp scored 2 goals in the 3rd period and another in the shootout as the Kootenay ICE beat the Edmonton Oil Kings 5-4 in an overtime shootout in WHL action on Wednesday night.
The Oil Kings (16-5-2-3) opened the scoring late in the first period on the powerplay with Dylan Wruck scoring with a wrist shot that beat the screened goalie.
The ICE (8-15-1-0) tied the game early in the second period as they created a turnover in the zone and Jon Martin scored with a wrist shot high on the stick side.
Jakub Prochazka extended his point streak to 5 games with an assist.
35 seconds later the Oil Kings regained the lead on a point shot from Keegan Lowe.
Midway through the period Wruck got his 2nd of the game with a backhand shot.
It’s the 14th time an opposition players has had a multi-goal game against the ICE.
The ICE changed goalies to start the third period with Mackenzie Skapski replacing Wyatt Hoflin.
The ICE got within a goal as Sam Reinhart broke through two defenseman and scored with a wrist shot high on the glove side.
The ICE tied the game with Luke Philp moving through the slot and scored with a shot through the goalies legs.
The ICE got their first lead of the night with Luke Philp getting his 2nd of the period with a wrist shot high on the glove side off a behind the net pass from Sam Reinhart.
41 seconds later the Oil Kings forced overtime with Cole Benson completing a 3-on-2 break.
The ICE won the shootout 2-0 on goals by Sam Reinhart and Luke Philp.
The win was the first by the ICE when trailing by 2 goals and the first when trailing after 2 periods.

On Wednesday, November 28th when the ICE hosted the Edmonton Oil Kings, the team used ice cube sticks during warm up and the first period that were auctioned off in a silent auction. Forward Collin Shirley's game used stick brought in the most money at $300.

Teddy Bear Night
Cranbrook, BC -- The Kootenay ICE Hockey Club will once again be taking part in the traditional A&W Bear, Toque and Mitten Toss on December 7 when the Prince Albert Raiders are in town.
Fans are encouraged to bring new and unused (due to distribution in health care facilities) winter wear, clothing and teddy bears to the game to launch onto the ice after Kootenay scores their first goal.
The ICE will be distributing the winter clothing and teddy bears to health care facilities and the Salvation Army in an effort to keep the young and old warm during the winter months.
Tickets are available at the Kootenay ICE Office or by calling 250-417-0322.

Everett 4 Kootenay 3 Game #23
Everett, Wash – The Kootenay ICE losing streak is at 3 games with a 4-3 loss to the Everett Silvertips in WHL action on Saturday night.
The ICE (7-15-1-0) opened the scoring 17 seconds into the game with Tanner Muth getting a wrist shot through from the blueline.
The Franchise Record for fastest ICE goal at the start of a game is 13 seconds by Curtis Billsten November 15/06 in Calgary.
The Silvertips (10-15-0-2) Tyler Sandu scored to tie the game 1-1 as he was alone in the slot.
The teams then combined for 3 goals in 46 seconds with Sandhu getting his 2nd on a powerplay redirection, Jon Martin with a wrist shot from the low slot and then ICE goalie Mackenzie Skapski misplayed the puck in front of his net and it went off a skate into the net and the goal was credited to Reid Petryk.

Portland, Ore – The Portland Winterhawks scored 3 third period goals in a 4-2 win over the Kootenay ICE in WHL action on Friday night.
The Winterhawks (19-4-1-0) scored the only goal of the first period with Taylor Peters feeding Paul Bitner near the net and he scored with a high redirection.

ANSWER – 1983 Portland defeated the Oshawa Generals 8-3 to become the first host team to win the Memorial Cup. It was the first tournament to establish the host team format.

The Kootenay ICE will visit Portland this afternnon in the only meeting of the season.
Last year in Cranbrook the ICE won 4-1.
The last regular season meeting in Portland was December 1/10 and the ICE won 5-3.
The clubs also met in the 2011 WHL Final.
The ICE 3-game winning streak was halted with a 7-4 loss in Seattle on Wednesday.

Seattle 7 Kootenay 4 Game #21
Kent, Wash – The Seattle Thunderbirds scored 4 third period goals in a 7-4 win over the Kootenay ICE in WHL action on Wednesday night.
The Thunderbirds (11-11-1-0) opened the scoring with a couple of odd-man rushes with Richards Lipsbergs and Connor Honey giving them a 2-0 lead.
The ICE (7-13-1-0) scored midway through the period with Zach McPhee jumping past a defenseman at their blueline and had a partial breakaway and found the net with a low shot to the stick side.
McPhee has 4 goals in his last 5 games
Early in the second period the Thunderbirds made it 3-1 with a powerplay goal from Riley Sheen.
In the third period the ICE got within a goal as Jakub Prochazka scored his 1st career goal on a rebound.
Seattle’s Luke Lockart scored 2 goals in a span 1:14 to make it 5-2.
The ICE then scored a shorthanded goal with Jordyn Boyd backhanding a shot over the goalies reaching pad.
Seattle quickly made it 6-3 with Justin Hickman scoring on a redirection.
With the clubs’ skating 4-on-4 Jordyn Boyd got his 2nd of the period.
ICE pulled their goalie with 1:11 left in the game and Alexander Delnov ended the scoring with an empty netter.

ICE CHIPS: The KOOTENAY ICE enter this week's action with a 7-12-1-0 record (5-9-1-0 at home, 2-3-0-0 on the road, 1-1-0 in overtime) and in sixth place in the CENTRAL DIVISION...For the second time this season the ICE have won three games in a row...This week KOOTENAY will travel to the US DIVISION (SEATTLE - November 21, PORTLAND - November 23, and EVERETT - November 24) before returning home to host EDMONTON (November 28).

Skapski Goalie of the Week
The WHL has nominated Mackenzie Skapski of the Kootenay Ice for the CHL Goaltender of the Week Award.
Skapski posted a 3-0-0-0 record this past week with two shut-outs, stopping 80 of 83 shots faced for a 0.964 save-percentage and 1.00 goals-against average.
Skapski, an 18-year-old from Abbotsford, BC, helped lead the Ice to a shut-out victory over the Calgary Hitmen, then a pair of wins over the visiting Brandon Wheat Kings.

Kootenay 5 Brandon 3 Game #19
Cranbrook, BC – The Kootrenay ICE scored 4 first period goals in a 5-3 win over the Brandon Wheat Kings in WHL action on Friday night.
Kyle O’Conner and Jaedon Descheneau each had 1 goal and 1 assist and Joey Leach had 2 assists to lead the attack.
The win ended a 7 game home losing streak.
The ICE (6-12-1-0) opened the scoring with Austin Vetterl finding a loose puck behind the goalie and got his first as a member of the ICE.
2:10 later Jaedon Descheneau made it 2-0 as he cruised through the high slot and scored with a wrist shot on the stick side.
33 seconds later the ICE made it 3-0 as Brock Montgomery fed Sam Reinhart in front of the net and his high shot beat the goalie on the glove side.
After the 3rd goal the Wheat Kings took a timeout.
Later in the period the Wheat Kings (9-10-2-1) got on the board with Jace Hawryluk alone in front of the net for a quick shot and a goal.
ICE scored 7 seconds into a powerplay as Collin Shirley from the high slot beat the goalie of the stick side.
Before scoring 4 goals in the first period the ICE season high was 2 goals in a period.
To start the second period the Wheat Kings changed goalies as Curtis Honey replaced Corbin Boes.
Early in the period the ICE scored a powerplay goal as Kyle O’Connor put in a rebound in the crease.
Early in the third period Brandon scored on a 2-man advantage with Ryan Pulock scoring with a one-time slap shot.

ICE forward Collin Shirley has been named to the Team West roster for the U-16 tournament to be held in Quebec over the holiday season.

Luke Philp returned to the line-up after missing 5 games after having his appendix removed.
The crowd was the biggest of the season for the 2nd Annual School Spirit Night.

ICE EKFH Fundraiser
On Wednesday, November 28th when the ICE host the Edmonton Oil Kings, the team will be using ice cube sticks during warm up and in the first period of the game. The sticks will be auctioned off in a silent auction during the game behind Section U with all the money raised going to the East Kootenay Foundation for Health.. The winning bidders will receive their ice cube sticks after the game from the ICE Players.
Tickets to the game on Wednesday, November 28th at 7:00 pm are on sale now at the Kootenay ICE Office or by calling 250-417-0322.
East Kootenay Foundation for Health is a public charitable foundation and non-profit society. Its mission is to provide funding to assist the East Kootenay Regional Hospital and other community health care facilities in meeting the needs of the region.
Presently EKFH holds over 30+ funds in trust for hospitals and health care facilities located in the East Kootenay Region. The foundation is run by a volunteer board of directors and welcomes interest for board and/or volunteer positions. Calgary, Alb – Kootenay ICE forward Brock Montgomery scored his 1st career hat-trick and goalie Mackenzie Skapski made 17 saves for his 2nd shutout in a 4-0 win over the Calgary Hitmen in WHL action on Monday night.
The win ends their losing streak at 8 games and stopped Calgary's winning streak at 5 games.
