Cranbrook, BC – Kootenay ICE forwards Jesse Ismond and Kevin King had 2 goal games in 6-3 win over the Saskatoon Blades in WHL action on Sunday night.
The ICE opened the scoring as the Blades goalie dove to try and cover up the puck in front of his crease but failed to find it and that left an open net behind him for Kevin King who backhanded it into the empty net.
While shorthanded Gaelan Patterson goes on a breakaway and is tripped by Jesse Ismond and was awarded a penalty shot. Patterson went for a wrist shot that was stopped by the goalies right pad.
Blades tied the game while shorthanded as on a 2-on-1 break Gaelen Patterson beat the goalie with a wrist shot.
ICE regained the lead on the power-play as Hayden Rintoul made a great pass to Jesse Ismond near the crease and one-timed the shot.
Ismond got his 2nd of the game after receiving a cross ice pass from Joe Antilla and his one-timer deflected off a blade stick and fluttered into the net.
On a power-play Steele Boomer goes coast-to-coast and then from the corner fed Kevin King crashing the net and he flips it in for his 2nd of the game.
The ICE scored their 3rd power-play goal of the period while the Blades are being called for another penalty, the ICE pulled their goalie and on a goal mouth scramble Max reinhart got the goal.
Blades made things interesting midway through the 3rd period on goals by Jeremy Boyer and Brent Benson that came 47 seconds apart.
Lukas Sutter assisted on on of the goals for his 1st career point in his 1st game.
Steele Boomer put the game away with a breakaway goal as he went with a backhand deke that he lifted over the goalies blocker arm.
ICE scratches – Brock Montgomery 1st game (shoulder 2 weeks) and Elgin Pearce.
ICE will host Swift Current on Tuesday.
