From TSN ...
Canada's newest millionaire could be Cranbrook, B.C.'s Barry Epp, as the only thing that separates him from $1 million is scoring 15 goals in 24 seconds on New Year's Eve in TSN's fifth annual, international award-winning million-dollar giveaway, the Chevrolet Cruze Million Dollar Shootout.
As part of the contest, Barry will also have the chance to win up to three all-new 2011 Chevrolet Cruze Sedans for himself and two friends.
The big event will air live nationally on December 31 during the first intermission of the IIHF Wolrd Junior Championship broadcast featuring Canada vs. Sweden (game starts at 4pm et/1pm pt on TSN).
Born and raised in Cranbrook, B.C., sales consultant Barry Epp, 63, lives, breathes and sleeps hockey.
He played recreational hockey and coached his sons' pee-wee and bantam teams in Prince Rupert, B.C. He counts Bobby Orr, Scott Niedermayer and Jonathan Toews among his favourite NHL players, and lists the Vancouver Canucks and defending Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks as his favourite sports teams. He is currently preparing for the Chevrolet Cruze Million Dollar Shootout with daily on-ice practices.
Barry is no stranger to the Chevrolet Million Dollar Shootout promotion, as he was in the stands at General Motors Place in Vancouver when Darwin Head of Prince Albert, SK, won it all during the Chevrolet Malibu Million Dollar Shootout in 2008, netting four Chevrolet Malibus and $1 million live on TSN.
"Who would've thought that I'd be shooting for one million dollars? This is totally unexpected and beyond my bucket list. I'm really just living the dream right now," said Barry. "The support I've received from family and friends so far has been amazing. I'm confident that I will be able to give them something special to celebrate on New Year's Eve."
As the selected participant, Barry receives a trip to Buffalo, NY, for himself and five friends. On December 31, Barry and his two shooters - son Shane Epp and friend Chris Kirwan - will head to centre ice during the first intermission, where they will each have 15 seconds to shoot 10 pucks at an open net (30 pucks in total).
Depending on the number of total goals scored as a group, prizes will be awarded as follows:
5-9 goals - Barry wins a new Chevrolet Cruze
10 goals or more - Barry, Shane and Chris all win a new Chevrolet Cruze
Immediately following the group shots at centre ice, Barry will move back to the far blue line where he will have 24 seconds to shoot 20 pucks into an open net. If Barry scores 15 or more goals within the allotted time, he is eligible to win $1 million in a one-time payout.*
One day prior to the shootout, Barry, Shane and Chris will hone their wrist shots in a special one-hour private practice session with Hall of Fame defenceman and Chevrolet Hockey Ambassador Bobby Orr at HSBC Arena in Buffalo on December 30 at 11:15 a.m. ET.
Barry was randomly chosen from nearly 7.2 million total online entries. In total, Barry accumulated 209 entries over the course of this year's Chevrolet Cruze Million Dollar Shootout promotion
