Cranbrook, BC – The Kootenay ICE recovered from a 2-0 1st period deficit to beat the Calgary Hitmen 3-2 in WHL action on Wednesday night.
Calgary opened the scoring as Nathan MacMaster scored on a breakaway with a wrist shot high on the stick side.
It’s the 1st time in 6 games against the ICE that Calgary scored the 1st goal of the game and held a lead in a game.
Less than 3 minutes later Hitmen made it 2-0 as John Lawrence was wide open in the slot as his wrist shot beat the goalie low on the stick side and went in off the post.
In the 2nd period the ICE scored on the powerplay as Kevin King from the middle slot fired a wrist shot high on the glove side.
ICE tied the game on a 3-on-2 attack and Matt Fraser banged in a rebound off a Drew Czerwonka slap shot.
In the 3rd period ICE made it 3-2 as Christian Magnus scored from the just inside the blueline that beat the screened the goalie on the glove side.
The ICE tied a Franchise Record by only allowing 11 shots-on-goal against. (February 15/07 in Portland)
Brayden McNabb returned after missing 2 games while attending Canada’s camp and Kevin King was in the lineup after missing 3 games to an elbow infection.
Former ICE Captain Adam Cracknell played in his 1st NHL game tonight for St. Louis in Detroit and hit the post in the 1st period.
The crowd of 2,169 was the smallest ever for game at the Rec-Plex.
ICE will host Red Deer on Friday.
