Cranbrook, BC – Kootenay ICE forward Cody Eakin had 2 goals and 3 assists in an 8-0 over the Calgary Hitmen in WHL action on Tuesday night.
ICE opened the scoring as Hayden Rintoul’s point shot was stopped but the rebound was banged in by Jesse Ismond.
ICE made it 2-0 while shorthanded as Cody Eakin stole the puck at the blueline and turned around on a breakaway and scored with a wrist shot high on the glove side.
On the powerplay the ICE made it 3-0 as Brayden McNabb scored with a high wrist shot from the blueline that beat the screened goalie.
McNabb has tied Steve McCarthy for most ICE career goals by a defenseman with 43.
Early in the 2nd period the ICE took a 4-0 led as Cody Eakin’s deflection was stopped but the rebound was put into the net by Joe Antilla.
On a 3-on-2 break the ICE made it 5-0 as Jesse Ismond fed Eric Benoit in the slot and he scored with a wrist shot on the stick side.
Calgary changed goalies as Brandon Glover replaced Michael Snider.
On the powerplay the ICE made it 6-0 as Brayden McNabb fed Cody Eakin who scored on a one-time slap shot from the top of the circle.
Early in the 3rd period the ICE had a 2-man advantage and defenseman John Neibrandt scored his 1st career goal with a wrist shot high on the stick side.
After a making a stretching save and being bumped in the crease ICE goalie Nathan Lieuwen left the game in the 3rd period and was replaced by Brett Teskey.
ICE scored their 4th powerplay goal of the game as Cody Eakin fed Matt Fraser in the high slot and his redirection beat the goalie along the ice on the glove side.
It was the 7th shutout of the season for the ICE which is shared by Nathan Lieuwen and Brett Teskey.
The 8 goals were the most scored by the ICE this season.
The crowd was the smalled in Rec-Plex history.
ICE are 7-0-0-0 vs Calgary this season.
