Cranbrook, BC – The Brandon Wheat Kings beat the Kootenay ICE 4-3 in WHL Playoff action on Wednesday night to win the series in 4 games.
Brandon opened the scoring on a breakaway as Matt Calvert mishandled the puck on a deke but the puck still went through the goalies’ legs.
Wheat Kings made it 2-0 on a 3-on-2 break and Andrew Clark had an open net and scored his 3rd of the series.
ICE scored early in the 2nd period as Kevin King finished off a 3-0n-2 break after receiving a pass from from Hayden Rintoul.
With 5 seconds left in the 2nd period Matt Calvert was stopped on a penalty shot.
Wheat Kings made it 3-1 early in the 3rd period as Brodie Melnychuk was alone in the high slot and scored with a high wrist shot.
ICE got back within a goal as Andrew Bailey scored on a power-play as he got a loose puck low in the circle and threw it through the goalies’ legs.
Bailey tied the game on another power-play on a deflection from point shot from Ian Barteaux.
Wheat Kings got the game winners as Brayden Schenn got a loose puck near the net as his shot went through the goalies’ legs and barely crossed the goalline.
