Cranbrook, BC – Kootenay ICE forwards Jesse Ismond and Matt Fraser each had 1 goal and 1 assist in a 4-3 win over the Edmonton Oil Kings in WHL action on Tuesday night.
ICE opened the scoring as Jesse Ismond broke an 18-game goalless streak while falling down in the high slot and his wrist shot beat the goalie high on the glove side. His last goal was November 27th in Everett.
Late in the period the ICE made it 2-0 as defenseman Hayden Rintoul’s point shot was stopped and Matt Fraser found the big rebound and had an open side to get the goal.
In the 2nd period the ICE scored 2 goals 2:09 apart to make the score 4-0.
Drew Czerwonka’s body check on an Edmonton defenseman created a 3-on-1 break and a pretty passing play left Max Reinhart with an open net for his team leading 24th on a feed from Matt Fraser.
Skating 4-on-4 the ICE went another 3-on-1 break and defenseman Brayden McNabb was near the crease to finish off the play on a perfect feed from Kevin King.
Oil Kings changed goalies as Laurent Brossoit replaced Jon Groenheyde.
Oi Kings scored late in the 2nd period on a 2-on-1 break and Dylan Wruck got the eventual breakaway and scored his team leading 24th.
Matt Fraser left the game in the 2nd period after being taking a knee to the side of the head.
Early in the 3rd period Oil Kings scored on the powerplay as Dylan Wruck had an open net on rebound in front of the net.
Defenseman Griffin Reinhart created a breakaway at the ICE blueline and scored with a wrist shot off the goalies blocker arm.
ICE won the season series 6-0.
The ICE have reached 30 wins for the 13th consecutive season.
Nathan Lieuwen played in his 100th career game.
ICE will visit Spokane on Friday.
