Cranbrook, BC – Red Deer Rebel’s Brett Ferguson had 2 goals and 2 assists in a 6-1 win over the Kootenay ICE in WHL action on Saturday night.
Rebels opened the scoring as defenseman Alexander Petrovic wristed a shot high on the stick side of the goalie. The play was not ruled a goal until video replay was used.
Rebels made it 2-0 as Brett Ferguson was alone near the crease and shovelled it through the goalies legs.
The game became 3-0 as Turner Elson stole the puck from the ICE in the corner and fed a wide open Ferguson in the low slot and his shot beat the goalie high on the glove side.
In the 3rd period defenseman Matthew Dumba scored with a wrist shot that beat the goal high on the glove side.
Defenseman Justin Weller made it 5-0 with a shot that went through the goalies’ legs.
ICE scored on the powerplay as James Martin’s point shot spoiled the shutout bid.
Rebels made it 6-1 on a 2-on-1 break as Locke Muller beat the goalie with a high shot.
The start of the game was delayed by 30 minutes because off bad road conditions and the Officials were late in their arrival.
ICE will visit Edmonton on Wednesday.
