Regina 2 Kootenay 1 Game #61

Regina, Sask – The Regina Pats scored a power-play goal and a shorthanded goal in a 2-1 win over the Kootenay ICE in WHL action on Wednesday night.

The Pats (32-23-5-1) opened the scoring in the second period while shorthanded with Jordan Weal getting a rebound off a Lane Scheidl shot.
It’s Weal’s 6th SHG of the season and he is tied for 2nd in the WHL (10 Emerson Etem)
The ICE have given up 5 SHG against this season, 2 against Regina.

The ICE (33-20-4-4) had a 5-on-3 powerplay in the third period but were called for a penalty that reduced it to a 4-on-3.
The ICE are 1/13 on 2-man advantages this season.
On the ensuing man-advantage the Pats made it 2-0 as Lane Schedl got a rebound goal.
The ICE pulled the goalie with 1:27 left and Jaedon Descheneau got the puck to Brock Montgomery in the slot and scored with a wrist shot high on the glove side.
The ICE pulled the goalie again but failed to get another good scoring chance.
The clubs split the season series 2-2.

The ICE will have an above .500 record for the 13th consecutive season, the longest active streak in the WHL.
The ICE will visit Saskatoon on Friday.

Jeff Hubic is the only player on the ICE roster from Regina.
Drew Czerwonka and Eric Benoit played in the Saskatchewan AAA Midget League in Regina.
