Cranbrook, BC – The Chilliwack Bruins ended the Kootenay ICE winning streak at 7 games with a 6-2 win in WHL action on Tuesday night.
Chilliwack opened the scoring late in the 1st period on a 2-on-1 break and Stephen Hodges cruised down the left wing and scored on a wrist shot low on the glove side.
The Bruins scored 3 goals in a 2:44 span early in the 2nd period.
Off a faceoff win Brandon Magee scored on a wrist shot high on the stickside.
On a powerplay Roman Horak crashed the crease to bang in a loose puck.
The Bruins made it 4-0 as the ICE deflected a pass into their own net and the goal was given to Brendan Persley.
The WHL’s #1 powerplay added a 2-man advantage goal late in the 2nd period as Brandon Manning blasted a slapshot from the top of the slot that went in high on the stick side.
In the 3rd period the Bruins made it 6-0 as Ryan Howse went in on a breakaway and scored on a backhand deke.
ICE changed goalies as Brett Teskey replaced Nathan Lieuwen.
ICE broke up the shutout bid on a powerplay as Christian Magnus from the corner fed Drew Czerwonka in the high slot and his one-time shot went through the goalies’ legs.
Late in the game the ICE scored their 2nd of the game off a faceoff win as Jagger Dirk’s high shot from the point was defelcted in by Eric Benoit who got his 1st career goal. Video replay was used to make sure it wasn’t a high stick.
ICE will host Lethbridge on Friday.
