Cranbrook, BC – Kootenay ICE forward Dustin Sylvester had 4 assists in a 7-1 win over the Tri City Americans in WHL action on Saturday night.
The ICE scored on the first shift of the game as defenseman James Martin at the blueline slap passed to Dominik Pacovksy in the low slot and had an open net and scored on a one-timer.
On a delayed penalty Cason Machacek made it 2-0 as he found a loose puck in the slot and wristed a shot high on the glove side.
In the 2nd period Joey Leach scored with a slap shot from the blueline that beat the screened goalie high on the gloveside.
Tri City changed goalies as Drew Owsley replaced Brett Martyniuk.
ICE rookie Brendan Hurley scored his 1st career goal as he was left alone in front of the net and received a pass from the corner from Pacovsky. Hurley went for the deke, misplayed the puck but in went through the goalies’ legs.
Americans got on the board late in the 2nd period as defenseman Brett Plouffe’s shot from the blueline deflects off an ICE stick, goes very high in the air and lands on the goaline beside the ICE goalie and rolled into the net.
In the 3rd period the ICE made in 5-1 as Steele Boomer poked in a rebound that was free behind the goalie.
Kevin King completed a 2-on-1 break with a backhand shot that went high over the sprawling goalie.
Max Reinhart made it 7-1 on a partial breakaway as he slammed on the brakes near the crease and stuffed the puck in on the forehand.
ICE scratches – Brayden McNabb 4th game (knee 1 week), Luke Paulsen 4th game (ankle day-to-day), Simon Skrudland and Elgin Pearce.
Returning to the line-up were Steele Boomer (missed 1 game flu), Christian Magnus (19 games finger) and Matt Fraser (5 games knee).
This was the first and only meeting this season.
Last year the Americans won 3-0.
Last meeting in Cranbrook was March 1, 2008 and the Americans won 3-2 in an overtime shootout.
The ICE will visit Lethbridge on Sunday and will host Prince Albert on Tuesday.
