Very quietly, the talk among western Canada scouts has been the rugged play of Moose Jaw's gigantic blue-liner, Dylan McIlrath. At 6-4/212, McIlrath has quickly become the scourge of the West with his mean, nasty disposition and imposing physical presence.
And for a very big man, McIlrath actually possesses some pretty fair puck movement skills, owing to the fact that he was a forward coming up the ranks all the way through his bantam days. We're not saying he's Paul Coffey at the offensive end, just that, while he's still a bit on the raw side in his puck handling, he's got some projectable long-term upside wrapped up in a physical package that makes him one of the toughest enforcers in this year's draft.

Rising:
Beau Bennett (Penticton) — Surprising Californian showed great hands and terrific skills in leading the U.S. to gold at the World Jr. A Challenge. (on Calgary Hitmen list)
Dylan McIlrath (Moose Jaw) — Huge D-man has a mean streak and pretty good puck skills left over from his days as a forward. Red Line's best early line sleeper.
Jason Clark (Shattuck) — The big, slick skating winger has impressed us with excellent offensive instincts and fine stick skills. (on Seattle Thunderbirds list)
Troy Rutkowski (Portland) — Does everything right with the puck and has improved his D-zone play so dramatically he's become good in his own end.
