Spokane, Wash – The Kootenay ICE finished the preseason with a 1-4 record after a 4-3 come from behind win in an overtime shootout over the Spokane Chiefs.
ICE scored on a late 1st period power-play as Max Reinhart won the puck from behind the net and got it to Elgin Pearce in the corner who fed defenseman Jagger Dirk sneaking in from the blueline. Dirk fired a wrist shot that went off the cross bar and into the net.
Early in the 3rd period goalie Todd Mathews caught the Chiefs on a line change with a stretch pass to Elgin Pearce at the Spokane blueline and he cruised down the left wing a fired a wrist high on the stick side.
Trailing 3-2 the ICE pulled the goalie with 1:40 left to play and Max Reinhart had a partial breakaway but was tripped from behind and crashed into the goalie. A penalty was going to be called but while down Reinhart pushed the puck through the goalie for the tying goal.
Pearce and Reinhart both scored in the shootout while Mathews stopped the 2 Chief attempts.
