Cranbrook, BC – Kootenay ICE goalie Todd Mathews made 34 saves in a 3-1 win over the Calgary Hitmen in WHL action on Sunday night.
The only goal of the 1st period came off a Calgary giveaway at their blueline as Misha Fisenko’s pass was picked off by Max Reinhart who fed a wide open Jesse Ismond and scored on a one-timer.
In the second period Matt Fraser cruised down the left wing boards and fired a shot shot that snuck through the goalies’ legs.
ICE made it 3-0 just after a powerplay ended and defenseman Brayden McNabb was open in the middle slot and wristed a a shot high on the stickside. McNabb now has goals in 5 straight games.
Calgary scored their only goal with their goalie on the bench and Del Cowan picked up a rebound a scored on backhand over the fallen goalie.
Calgary leads the season series 4-1.
The crowd was the biggest of the year at the Rec-Plex.
