Holick, Knoblauch, Shaw & Kazuik Sign Extensions

Jeff Chynoweth, General Manager of the Kootenay ICE Hockey Club, today announced Head Coach Mark Holick has signed a two-year contract extension with the Club through the 2010-2011 season.
“Mark and his entire coaching staff have done an excellent job with the Hockey Club not only this year, but last season as well. Despite having the second youngest team in the WHL and having injuries to key players we have remained in the middle of the pack in the Eastern Conference and in position to qualify for the post season. With the majority of our Club eligible to return next season and with the improvement shown by our younger players, it is very important that the continuity between the players and Head Coach continue”, continued Chynoweth.
Mark Holick was named the fourth Head Coach in franchise history in August 2007. Prior to joining the ICE, Holick worked in the both the British Columbia Hockey League (1994-2003, 2006-2007) and Alberta Junior Hockey League (2003-2006) as both a Head Coach and Assistant Coach. He was also the Head Coach of Team Pacific at the 2004 World Under 17 Tournament and led them to a second place finish. Holick played in the Western Hockey League with the Saskatoon Blades and New Westminster Bruins (1984-1987) and was drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs (11th round – 216th overall) in the 1986 NHL Entry Draft.

The success we have maintained over the past 11 years both on and off the ice can partially be attributed to having good people in key positions. Stability and continuity are the key to any successful organization and these three gentlemen are a big part of what we are all trying to achieve”, continued Chynoweth.
