Cranbrook, BC – Kootenay ICE defenseman Luke Paulsen had 1 goal and 2 assists in a 4-1 win over the Edmonton Oil Kings in WHL action on Tuesday night.
ICE opened the scoring on the power-play as defenseman James Martin’s wristed a point shot that beat the screened goalie high on the glove side. Martin has a league best 5 goals for a defenseman.
Oil Kings tied the game on a powerplay, 1 second after a 5-on-3 advantage ended, as Jordan Hickmott was wide open at the bottom of the circle and scored on a one-timer that he fanned on but the puck made it’s way across the goaline.
In the 3rd period the ICE scored on a 3-on-1 break as Jesse Ismond fed Sam Reinhart at the top of the crease and he redirected the puck through the goalies’ legs. Reinhart who is 14 (turns 15 in November) was playing in his 1st WHL game.
The ICE made it 3-1 while on a 5-on-3 penalty as Luke Paulsen came out the penalty box and found a loose puck a centre ice and went on a breakaway and scored his 1st career goal with a snap shot through the legs.
ICE added insurance on Jagger Dirk’s point shot. Adam Rossignol earned his 1st WHL point with an assist.
The game saw the 3 Reinhart brothers play, as Max and Sam for the ICE played against Griffin for the Oil Kings. Their Father Paul played 648 games in the NHL w/Atlanta, Calgary and Vancouver.
