Kootenay 5 Brandon 4 SO Game #15

Cranbrook, BC – The Kootenay ICE came back from a 3 goal deficit to win their 7th straight game in a 5-4 overtime shootout win over the Brandon Wheat Kings in WHL action on Friday Night.

Brandon opened the scoring early in the 1st period as Scott Glennie fed Brenden Walker near the net and he deflected it over the goalies’ arm.
On a 3-on-2 break the Wheat Kings made it 2-0 as defenseman Brody Melnychuk banged in a rebound.
Brandon made it 3-0 as Mark Stone was open near the net and scored with a wrist shot high on the glove side.

ICE scored early in the 2nd period as Brayden McNabb’s slap shot along the ice beat the screened goalie low on the glove side.
ICE got within a goal less than 2 minutes later as Joey Leach leaped in the slot to stop a clearing attempt and stepped into a slap shot that went in on the stick side.

In the 3rd period the ICE tied the game on the power-play as Luke Paulsen’s points shot was stopped but Christian Magnus had an open net on the rebound.
ICE took a brief 4-3 lead as a fallen Elgin Pearce fed Drew Czerwonka near the near and he wristed it in off the goal post.
Less than a minute later Hampus Gustaffson tied the game on a 2-on-1 break.

In the shootout the ICE won 3-1.
ICE were 3 for 3 on goals on by Matt Fraser, Jesse Ismond and Max Reinhart.
Wheat Kings were 1 for 2 as Mark Stone scored and Scott Glennie was stopped.

The ICE are down to 5 healthy defensemen as Hayden Rintoul will be out of the lineup for up to 2 weeks with a collarbone injury and James Martin had surgery on his nose and will be unavailable for a few weeks.
During the game defenseman John Neibrandt left the game after a 2nd period fight.

ICE will host Chilliwack on Tuesday.
